This was a fun and sweet story…also, a lot longer than I expected! I made the mistake of starting this book at around 9pm thinking I’d get a chapter in before bed. At around 2:30am, with my heavy eyelids propped up by toothpicks, I finished the book with a satisfied sigh. Sean is apparently one of the biggest movie stars in the world with an Oscar under his belt at the tender age of 32. Morgan is trying to eek out a living trying to keep the Victorian Inn that was her mother’s dream going. She’s still intensely traumatized by her prior relationship where she was dumped by her fiance on the day of the wedding.

    *** BIG spoiler alert ***
Morgan’s mother came from a wealthy family that disowned her because she had a baby out of wedlock. Morgan’s rat of a fiance – who also beat her – only wanted to marry her thinking that she’d inherit a big chunk of money upon her grandfather’s death. When he realized on the day of the wedding that Morgan wasn’t going to get anything, he ripped off her dress and beat the crap out of her.
    *** end BIG spoiler ***

One day out of the blue, she gets a text that says “baby she didn’t mean anything to me” (or something like that). Her BFF Cerise and her have a little fun with him as it’s apparent he’s a cheating rat bas*d and lead him on believing they’re the woman he’s texting. After while, Morgan feels bad and tries to come clean, though Sean doesn’t believe her until she refers him to her inn’s website. He becomes intrigued by her photo and strikes up a friendship with her via text, and eventually, phone calls.

The first half of the book is pre-revelation. Sean is very, very secretive as to his identity. He lets slip that he’s wealthy, but he refuses to give her specific details or his last name to avoid her identifying him as he’s afraid it’ll color how she comes to know him. Despite his secrecy and the fact that they don’t meet for the first half of the book, he sends a friend over to help her publicize her inn and helps her revamp her inn’s website to drive in more business. So even while apart, he tries to take care of her. You see their relationship based on who they are on the inside develop, and that’s one of the sweet parts of the book even though there are roadblocks and obstacles in their way.

The latter half of the book is about Morgan learning to deal with the fact that she’s with a famous man that all women want. She has a crash course in dealing with the paparazzi, jealousy, having a security detail, healing from her prior bad relationship, Sean’s spending habits, and learning to trust others. She’s thrust in a new life even though the book takes place in Vermont as opposed to L.A. so the changes aren’t TOO abrupt.

By no means is Sean perfect, but it’s apparent that he truly deeply loves Morgan and will do anything for her. Throughout the course of the book he makes mistakes (no real infidelity though for those who find it a deal breaker like I do – though he kisses an ex while drunk after fighting with Morgan midway through the book) and he pays for them. What I liked was that though she was wounded, she wouldn’t take any crap from him and made him work for her forgiveness. For those who love celebrity/girl next door romances (like I do) this is a good read. There are funny moments, touching moments, swoon worthy moments, and deeply emotional moments. This is a good escapist romance novel with plenty of fantasy and not too much drama. Even though it touches on domestic violence, there’s not TOO much angst and it doesn’t overshadow the romance. A good read and solid recommendation for those who like meet cute books and want to escape into a good fantasy.

If you decide to give this book a try please realize that it is quite an unbelievable story with lots of drama. I was ok with that going into it myself based on some other reviews. However, it just seemed like every component of the story was so unlikely that I had a hard time connecting with the story or the characters. I also felt like the story would never end. I’m a very fast reader but every time I thought the story was wrapping up another plot drama scene would be tacked on. I honestly didn’t hate this story it just wasn’t really my thing. There are lots of steamy scenes which I personally prefer to imagine not read.
